Five things I do not have

Mon Jun 1, 2009, 8:19 PM
The statements and opinions expressed are completely honest. The items are listed in order of insipidity.
1. A myspace page.
I knew this insane site was an epic failure ever since I watched it abound in high school. The profiles look very crappy, not to mention the general uselessness of the site.
2. A facebook page.
Pretty useless as well, although the site looks MUCH cleaner. I can see how it could be a good tool but I don't need one.
3. An iPod (or other standalone portable mp3 player).
I have a Dell MM061 laptop with a good version of iTunes for my desk, a Samsung NC10 netbook also with iTunes for the road/school, and a Kenwood stereo system for my vehicle with a USB port to read directly from and browse my flash drive. Is it necessary to listen to my music constantly?
4. A cell phone.
Well I actually do have this, but only because my mom bought it and pays the bill to stay in contact with me. I use it so rarely that sometimes it goes five days before the battery dies. When I'm at home, I use the house phone. If I lived on my own, I would not have it because I can't afford it.
5. A reason for posting this.
I find it fascinating that I don't own or wish to own any of the above items that most of America feeds off of. Maybe when someone says "I can't live without my [phone/iPod/myspace]" I can just retort, "Well I can; I don't have one!" and wait for that pathetic "A free thinker??" shock effect. But why I'm using my journal entry to rant, I unfortunately don't have a reason especially because I don't expect many to read it. Perhaps it will catch the eye of someone who agrees with me.

  • Listening to: The Mars Volta and other actual music
  • Reading: my netbook screen
  • Watching: the cursor blink
  • Playing: drums
  • Eating: food
  • Drinking: water

This is being posted to forestall a flood of negative comments. Don't get offended if I removed a "favorite" on your piece! I removed a lot of stuff that were taking up space. Logically speaking, if you are accumulating much more than a couple pages of them, many aren't really your favorite pieces because interests and discoveries change. Also, very few of my "favorites" are from the same user. Adding a crap load of one artist's pieces to your "favorites" is either considered sucking up to them or making things harder for yourself since you have to rake through pages and pages to retrieve a piece you added a long time ago. All you really need is one of their pieces as a link to their profile and if you're a pack rat like me, just download all of theirs you like.
